POLICY, PRINCIPLES AND VALUES
Jim Hoops is a Conservative Republican who shares the principles and values that are cherished by the citizens of northwest Ohio (the First Senate District), including:

- Life - Jim Hoops voted for the Heartbeat Bill, which was signed into law, protecting unborn children.
- 2nd Amendment - Jim Hoops stands up for the 2nd Amendment. He was an original supporter of concealed carry in 2004 and in 2022. He backed the law to allow concealed carry without the need for a permit. Hoops also co-sponsored House Bill 498 called the Ohio Self Defense Act.
- Law and Order - Jim Hoops strongly supports law enforcement (and all first responders). He understands that freedom cannot exist without law and order.
- Family and Parents Rights - Jim is a husband, father, and grandfather who understands and appreciates the importance and blessings of a strong family and the rights of parents to protect, guide, and raise their children.
- Women's Sports - Jim Hoops co-sponsored House Bill 68, also known as the "Save Women's Sports Act", which became an Ohio law prohibiting biological males from participating in girls' sports teams in K-12 schools and at the collegiate level.
- Property Tax Reform - Jim Hoops spearheaded property tax reform in the Ohio Legislature with a series of bills that were passed by both the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate, and have been signed into law by the Governor. This legislation eliminates future spikes in property tax increases and is estimated to save taxpayers more than $2.4 billion in the future, while ensuring the financial strength of our public schools.
- State Income Tax Reductions - Jim Hoops voted for House Bill 96 which reduced state income tax, setting a 2.75% income tax rate for all taxpayers, for those making under $26,050 dollars, there will be no income tax collected. This is $1 billion in tax relief for the citizens of Ohio.
- Ethics and Integrity of Our Government Institutions - Jim Hoops believes deeply in upholding the integrity of our institutions and leads by example. He carried House Bill 128 to overturn HB6, standing against corrupt politicians in Ohio.
A favorite quote of Jim Hoops comes from former Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, William M. McCulloch. The bust of Speaker McCulloch along with his quote (as seen in the adjacent photo) sits outside the House Chamber in the Ohio Statehouse. The quote reads:
"We are a nation of many people and many views. In such a nation, the prime purpose of a legislator, from wherever he may come, is to accommodate the interests, desires, wants and needs of all our citizens. To alienate some in order to satisfy others is not only a disservice to those we alienate, but a violation of the principles of our Republic. Lawmaking is the reconciliation of divergent views. In a democratic society like ours, the purpose of representative government is to soften tension - reduce strife - while enabling groups and individuals to more nearly obtain the kind of life they wish to live."
